Design Requirements

Located in the Western Canadian Prairies of Southern Alberta, this private residence was a reinterpretation of traditional vernacular Alberta architecture. The upper floor offered the best views of the rolling prairie landscape and needed to be used to its full potential.

Solution

Simple forms with voids and a daring cantilever, careful detailing and locally sourced materials defined the architecture of this project. The spatial subdivision was such that while the private and sleeping quarters were located on the main floor, all the living and social spaces were situated on the upper floor to allow for enjoyment of the majestic views.
