Design Requirements

The project was a cannabis production facility for Fort McMurray #468 First Nation to be located near Gregoire Lake, about 50 km southeast of Fort McMurray. The operation was designed to produce 2,600 kilograms of cannabis annually. The building followed a standard design by RavenQuest BioMed (partner of the First Nation), utilizing space-saving Orbital Gardens technology which grows marijuana plants around a light in a rotating chamber.

Solution

With tall columns resembling wood logs and a glass façade inspired by the icy lake, the building echoed the surrounding landscape formations and blended seamlessly with its muskeg context.
